Bubble Gum

Bubble Gum
WALT: write and explanation.

The first person who made gum was Walter Diemer.  He invented bubble gum in 1928.  He made bubble gum because bubble gum had the word bubble and Walter loved bubbles.  In 1928, he decided to make bubble gum.  Walter used rubber and dye to make gum.  Walter made his bubble gum in Fleer Chewing Gum Co in Philadelphia.

Long ago, people made bubble gum from trees called Rosin.  Rosin is collected from growing pine trees.  Bubble gum was also made from bark tar.  Long ago the people used bubble gum for mouth freshners.  The Aztecs also used gum to stick things on walls.

Today  bubble gum is made  out of synthetic plastic and rubber with machines.  The rubber and synthetics are mixed  with food colouring and flavoring.  Next the bubble gum gets mixed with a special liquid to keep the gum base soft.  After that  dextrose, a powdered sweetener is added..  Then the bubble gum  is mixed for about 20 minutes.  This stirring action builds up heat to stick everything together.

Next  the bubble gum  is put into a machine.  The machine squeezes the gum together.  The machine transforms the gum into strips.  The strips then go to another machine to make bite sized gum.   To make the gum cool faster, the gum gets put into a cooling chamber.

When the gum is done and ready to eat, the machines start to make the wrapper for the gum.  People put each bite sized gum into a wrapper.  Then the sides of the wrapper get twisted by a machine.  Next, every gum gets put into buckets and is  ready to be packed into boxes.

That is the modern process of making bubblegum that we buy from Pak n Sav.
