Food Tech - Rice With Bacon

Zrice.png
This is a picture of my rice with bacon I made at Tech.  I do not know what this is called but it tasted very nice.  I had the same group to help me make it.  Their names were Robin and Ifa.  We all had our own plate to put the rice and bacon on so we could share the rice equally.  I had  a really fun time making it.  Nextime, hopefully I want to make something like a smoothie or a milkshake.

Do you have enough money?

Money.png
This game is called Do you have enough money.  In this game you have to read the sentence given above.   Then you have to count the money you have to see if you have the right amount of money to buy the object mentioned in the sentence.  In this level I only had $9.80.  That means the price of the object is too expensive.  To get the answer no, I had to count the money and add them up altogether.  This game was really easy for me.  Nextime I play math games, I want to learn more about decimals and fractions.

I want to be a Millionaire

Walt: write in paragraphs.

I want to be a Millionaire.  I want to become a Millionaire because I want to live in a mansion and be famous.  When I get a mansion, I want to decorate the house so it looks nice.  When I become a Millionaire, I also want to help my family by buying them a bigger house and food so they can always eat and drink.  When I become a Millionaire, I want to buy some fancy cars like a Ferrari or a luxurious Rolls Royce.  I also want to buy a car for my family so they can drive to a to b faster than walking.  If I become a Millionaire, I can buy a plane and travel to countries I haven't been to, and countries I want to go to.  I also want to buy stylish clothes and be on tv.

I always wanted to be a Millionaire because I always wanted to see what happens when I go close to people with millions of dollars.  I also wanted to put security cameras outside my house so that I can see who knocks on my door and if a thief comes to my house, I can send my guards out to get him.  I also want to be a Millionaire because I want to meet famous people and see what I can do with all of my money.  That is what I want to do when I become a Millionaire.

Should Fluoride be added to water?

Samuel

Walt: write a persuasive speech.

Doesn't everyone know that fluoride is salt and water mixed together so its a mineral for teeth.  Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay (Rotten Teeth).  Fluoride is very helpful to teeth because people don't want their teeth rotten.  Rotten teeth also make your teeth fall out and no one likes missing teeth.  Most people would agree that fluoride should be added to water but some people would agree that fluoride should not be added to water.  Here are the reasons why we should add fluoride to our drinking water.

We all know that fluoride reduces tooth decay by 20 to 40%.  Fluoride strengthens and rebuilds the enamel so that your teeth don’t come out.  Tooth decay is the worst disease that can happen to your teeth.

Fluoride reduces pain and loss of teeth.  Losing teeth is the worse that can happen to your mouth.  Pain caused in your mouth can be very sore.

Everybody knows that fluoride does not change the quality of water.  Changing the flavour of water would be weird for the people and animals who drink weird flavoured water.

Fluoride also can slow early signs of repairs of tooth decay.  If you have tooth decay, fluoride can slow early signs of repairs and that might be helpful.

Here are the reasons why fluoride should not be added to our drinking water.

Fluoride is the only chemical added to water for medical treatment to teeth.  Adding fluoride to drinking water prevents tooth decay so that means that fluoride helps the tooth and is a medical treatment.  All the other water treatments make the water safer for people to drink while fluoride does not.

Surely you would agree that once fluoride is put into water, it is impossible to control the dose each individual person receives because people drink different amounts of water.  If people were able to control the fluoride, a person that drinks water with fluoride in it will receive a critical.  If fluoride was added to water, people might have to drink the same amount as other people.

Tooth decay was already coming down before fluoride was put into different parts of areas.  Researches show that the decay of tooth was lowering before fluoridation was introduced to Australia and New Zealand.  Tooth decay also will not go up when fluoride is stopped.

The fact is that fluoride may cause damage to the brain.  According to the NRC (National Research Council) it appears fluoride has the ability to interface with the functions of peoples brain.  Scientists have used fluoride on animals and the results show that the animals they tested were low as 5 ppm.

Naturally I feel that people should add fluoride to water.  Even though the reasons why we shouldn't put fluoride into water, I still want fluoride to be added to water.  A sensible idea would be to add fluoride to certain areas that need fluoride and don’t add fluoride to other areas.

Dental Presentation

DentalPresentation.png
Today, Mrs Wallbridge came to our school.  Room 12 joined our class to hear what she was going to say.  She came to our school to tell us about our teeth and what can happen to our teeth.  She told us many helpful facts about our teeth and the things that are bad for our teeth.

We wrote questions about teeth that we don’t know so that when she came to our school, she could answer them for us.  When she came she answered all of our questions and showed us a presentation about our teeth and teeth problems.  Some of the pictures on the presentation were yuck but some of them were them fine.  The most disgusting picture on the presentation was a picture of a lady that had black teeth had and her tongue was missing a part of meat.  That was caused by smoking and drinking alcohol.  When I saw the picture I said to myself that I will never smoke in my life.   I learned many new things about teeth.

There was one really interesting fact that I thought was very helpful.  That fact was that if your tooth has fallen out, you can put it back in to help the tooth stay alive.  Most of the students were confused but some students and the teachers were amazed.  I thought it was very helpful for her to tell us those interesting facts.  Now I will tell my family about the facts and the things Mrs Wallbridge told us.

Thank you to Pak 'n' Save

Dear the Store Manager of Pak ‘n’ Save,
Thank you for giving us free toothbrushes.  The free toothbrushes you gave us were perfect for our teeth because our teeth need soft toothbrushes.  We appreciate you giving us the toothbrushes because some people share a toothbrush and some people don’t brush their teeth.  Giving the toothbrushes will make us have white and clean teeth.

Tooth Traditions around the world

WALT: look for information.

All around the world, there are different traditions for lost teeth.  Some of the traditions are weird to  me but to some people they are not.   Here are 4 countries with traditions for lost teeth.

Egypt Tooth Traditions:
The Egypt tradition for teeth is that if a child loses his tooth, the Egyptians fling their teeth at the sun.  They do this to replace the old tooth that fell out with a good tooth that will grow back in their mouths.
Egypt.gif
Japan Tooth Tradition(s):
Japanese people throw a lower baby tooth up onto their roof but on the other side of Japan, they throw a upper tooth below the “en-no-shita”- a  traditional japanese house.  They do this to make upper tooth and the lower tooth  grow healthy.
Japan.gif
India Tooth Tradition(s):
Some kids in India throw their tooth up onto their roof and ask a sparrow to bring them a new tooth.  Other children in India throw their tooth at the sun asking for an adult tooth.  It is like the Egypt teeth tradition.
India.gif
Ancient Abyssinia Tradition:
Children throw their lost tooth at a howling hyena and ask the hyena for a strong tooth to replace the lost tooth.

There are lots of tooth traditions in the world.  Some of the traditions may be weird or normal.  All I know is that I asked my mum for the burmese tradition and she said “I have to put my tooth under my pillow”.

We need mouthguards for contact sports

Screenshot from 2014-05-09 12:22:39.png
Screenshot from 2014-05-09 12:21:34.png

WALT: write a persuasive speech.

Mouthguards are mandatory to some sports.  Mouthguards are also worn to play sports that involve grounds and stadiums.  Mouthguards are made of soft plastic.  The way mouthguards are made are to protect someones mouth.

Mouthguards protect your teeth.  Losing teeth is bad because you won’t be able to eat and talk properly.  Mouthguards also cushion your teeth so you can play better at sports.  Mouthguards help prevent damage for your teeth so it does not get chipped or loose teeth.

Mouthguards protect against jaw injury and neck injury.  Your jaw and neck are important to a person's body because if your neck breaks, you might go to the hospital or get killed.  You also need to protect your jaw so you can eat food.  If your jaw is broken you won’t be able to open your mouth for a couple of days or weeks.

Mouthguards also reduce concussion.  Concussion is when you get hit hard on the head and you get knocked out.  Knocked out is bad because if you're in a middle of a game you, can get trampled on.  Concussion also make you get brain damage.  If your brain gets damaged, you might forget things and your brain might be seriously damaged.

I can see from the reasons I have given above that everyone who is involved or play sports  with contact, need to wear mouthguards.  If people ignore this rule, they will get hurt.
